Kaizer Chiefs’ new signings so far

Kaizer Chiefs’ new signings are mostly doing much better than expected as the media have written them off to shine at Amakhosi. The former Maritzburg United man is doing well in the left back position while other new signings are also doing their jobs very well. The man still to be given a fair chance is Bongolwethu Jayiya who played for cape town City FC last season and was part of the team that won the Telkom Knockout Cup in their first season in the PSL.

After signing Bongolwethu Jayiya from Cape Town City, Kaizer Chiefs are determined to reach greater heights in the new PSL seasn but their fans are singing a different tune as the player signed was a free agent again which is a mistake they sis in the previous 2 seasons where they never won a single trophy.

Kaizer Chiefs Football club is known as the ‘cup specialists’ in South African football as it is the only team which has won the high number of trophies than any other team in the history of South African football. Even though the team was formed while the likes of pirates and Moroka Swallows were already in the game, they have managed to collect the highest number of trophies than those older teams. They have also won the CAF Mandela Challenge which is currently known as the CAF Confederations Cup.

The current Kaizer Chiefs team is a shadow of themselves as they are currently struggling to win at least a single trophy in local competitions. The current players are nothing but average players who are not capable of turning out for a team like Kaizer chiefs. The reasons of kind of players that are currently at Naturena ranges from a lot of considerations.

Firstly Chiefs won the league under the guidance of Stuart Baxter and they failed to secure the contracts of their star players after winning the league. The likes of Mandla Masango and Tefu Mashamaite were just asking for better contracts but Chiefs’ management turned a blind eye on the issue and now they are suffering. Stuart Baxter also left the team.

Secondly the management are not buying quality players and they are not consulting with their technical team when signing players. They are just taking anyone who is free and bring them to Naturena. Chiefs is supposed to be competing with the likes of Pirates and Sundowns when it comes to signing of top quality players.

Thirdly the squad is made up of individual players who are not much like team players. They don’t play as a unit and each and every player plays for their own good than for the benefit of the team. Players like Hendrik Eikstein is now under the sidelines because he asked for an improved contract when the team was exercising their option of extending his contract.

If chiefs are to compete with the top teams in the country they must do away with all averaged players and start signing top quality players. They currently have 3 top international players undergoing trials at Naturena and hope they sign only quality players than a number.

Coach Steve Komphela is not a problem at Chiefs. He has tried all the combinations using the available players but nothing has yielded good results. Steve should be given a chance by management to give them a list of kind of players he is looking for to help him achieve his goals at Chiefs because all the players currently at Chiefs were signed by management.

The contracts of star players are currently under 6 months before expiring and yet the team has not done anything regarding the issue. The likes of Eric Mathoho are allowed to negotiate with a team of their choice currently and if possible he could leave the team and join any other team. Sundowns has shown interest in him but Bobby insisted Chiefs are safe about Mathoho issue.

As things stand, the Amakhosi team are not buying any player but searching for those talented players who are free to join them. This has become a trend for Chiefs management as they last bought a player about 2 seasons ago. They recently released 7 players but again they are bringing in released players from other teams.

Steve Komphela is again struggling to maintain the winning ways in the team after managing to collect points against Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
