Baroka FC and Golden Arrows on top of the PSL table

The current 2017/18 PSL season is full of surprises as teams that are at the top were fighting relegation last season. Baroka FC survived the chop in the playoffs after they finished 15th last season. This season the team is at the top of the league table with 1o games played. The second team in the table is Lamontville Golden Arrows which is one of the teams with a lot of talented players.

The PSL league last season:

The 2016/17 Premier Soccer League season was one of the exciting seasons of all time as there were a lot of surprises  witnessed by fans in the campaign. Although it was difficult to say which team would walk away with the ABSA Premiership title it was evident that Bidvest Wits were on a serious mission by the look of things. the team ended up winning the title.

Supersport United were at the summit of the ABSA Premiership with 25 points collected from 14 games at some point. The Stuart Baxter led team was one of the favorites to clinch the title as their performance improved compared to the previous season. Supersport just gave Orlando Pirates one of the unforgivable defeats in the history of South African football with a humiliation score of 6 goals to 1 during the campaign.

Bidvest Wits were at times behind Supersport United with a goal difference as they shared the equal number of points. Both were at 25 points and Wits played 13 games meaning that they had a game in hand and if they should win it they would be on top of Supersport United by 2 points. Wits under the guidance of Gavin Hunt were one of the favorites to win the ABSA Premiership. They were a disciplined side with determined to fight for the title.

Cape Town City FC were also on 25 points from 15 matches they played at some point in the season as they were also fighting for the title. The team was still new in the PSL and has already collected a silverware in their first season. They were fighting for the ABSA Premiership title and ready to make history in South African football. Eric Tinkler has done a wonderful job since joining the team before the start of the season before moving to SuperSport United later on. He was formerly with Orlando Pirates and led them to the final of the CAF Confederations Cup and was an assistant to Roger De Sa when they played Al Ahly in the final of the CAF Champions League in 2013.

Kaizer Chiefs were also in the top 4 with 24 points collected from their 15 games they have played at some point in the season. They were also fighting for the title. Chiefs strengthened their squad for the second round with 3 players on trial from outside of the borders. That showed that Chiefs were gunning for the PSL title as their plan was to qualify for the CAF Champions League. They were under a lot of pressure after Sundowns won the CAF CL after Pirates won it in 1995.

On fifth, sixth, and seventh positions were Polokwane City, Golden Arrows, and then Mamelodi Sundowns respectively. Both Polokwane City and Golden Arrows were doing well in the season but were not up for the challenge. They were only playing for a top 4 position or top 8 position as there is a price for each and every position attained in the PSL.

The defending champions are at the bottom of the league and not going to defend their title as they are losing games they should have won and also they started very slow which led to them being rooted to the bottom of the log.
