Hendrick Ekstein of Kaizer Chiefs is currently enjoying his football at Chiefs. He has been sidelined for too long and was once linked with a move away from Amakhosi as the team’s legends were advising him to look for a team where his talent would be needed. He is currently a regular at Amakhosi and doing well under Steve Komphela who was also not needed anymore by fans.
Chiefs are currently challenging for the PSL title and also they are in the semifinals of the Telkom Knockout Cup where they are facing Bidvest Wits who are defending champions of the PSL and currently struggling. Chiefs have gone a number of seasons without winning a trophy in the PSL.
Kaizer Chiefs supporters have been wondering where their favorite midfielder is as he was never reported injured or having any problems. Ekstein, who is fully fit, has been a notable absentee for the club’s last five matches, with media reports and other sources claiming the player has been denied a request for an improved contract.
The 25-year-old last played for Steve Komphela’s side in the nil-nil draw against Baroka FC on November 2 and has not been named in a matchday squad since then. Such is Ekstein’s plight that even Siyabonga Ngezana earned a place on the bench ahead of him for the 3 goals to 1 defeat at Chippa United last Saturday, along with new signing Joseph Molangoane.
Chiefs communications manager Vina Maphosa, when contacted for further information, referred questions on Ekstein to the football department at Naturena. Our sources contacted football manager Bobby Motaung to find out if there is any truth to reports that Ekstein is being sidelined because “his head is not in the right space”.
“I have nothing to talk about [regarding that issue]. I really have no comment because there is nothing to talk about,” Motaung responded.
Ekstein, who turns 26 on January 1 next year, had one goal and no assists for Amakhosi in nine starts this season before being dropped. The goal he scored came via a deflection in the controversial 1 all draw with Platinum Stars on September 14.
The Glamour Boys next face Bloemfontein Celtic on December 14 at FNB Stadium looking to turn around a dismal run of eight consecutive matches in all competitions without a win in regulation time. Some emergency rescuers are needed at Kaizer Chiefs to make sure the team remains one of the best teams in South Africa.
Hendrick is currently one of the best midfielders in South Africa and sooner or later he will be in the Bafana Bafana team that will be focusing on qualifying for the nest CAF African Cup of Nations after failing to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia which will be played next year. Hendrick was also included in the Bafana Bafana CHAN squad that also failed to qualify.
Steve Komphela is so far impressed with Hendrick and has been encouraging the midfielder to play his normal game than trying to play something different which will make him not produce top performance. As things stand at the moment, Hendrick is a regular and looking forward to win trophies with Chiefs. He is still young and fully fit. Without injuries Hendrick will be in the annual PSL awards come end of the current 2017/18 PSL season.
