The worst Orlando Pirates coaches ever

Orlando Pirates management are wondering how they ended up hiring coaches who were not good enough to lead their team. Muhsin Ertugral and Kjell Jonevret failed the team in a way that supporters were about to boycott all Pirates matches. The two European coaches divided the team and left. The team is now in the hands of Micho Sredojevic who is doing his best to reunite the team alongside Rhulani Mokoena.

Muhsin had a bad record before joining Pirates as all the teams he coached he left all of them with divisions within them. He fought with a number of top players in all the teams he coached. Muhsin was never loved by Pirates fans and some even decided not to attend Pirates matches since he was appointed then. He did not last six months and one of the top players at Pirates left the team because of him.

Kjell Jonevret failed to qualify the team to the top 8 which was the first time the team failed to qualify for the top 8 in their history. He failed to win matches which were supposed to have been won and later on resigned and went back home to Sweden where he told the local TV station that he was never given powers to lead the team as management were always instructing him on each and every thing.

Under Kjell and Muhsin, Orlando Pirates Football Club has been going through their worst seasons in South African football especially after being beaten by 6 goals to 1 by Supersport United and also again by 6 goals to 0 by Mamelodi Sundowns in a period of 3 months. They again lost by 4 goals to 1 against SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup final.

Fans were asking why Dr. Irvin Khoza was ignoring them on a plea to appoint Ruud Krol as the team’s coach as the new coaches failed the team in a way that was not acceptable. That meant that the team had to go on without winning trophies just like their neighbours Kaizer Chiefs under Steve Komphela.

The appointment of Muhsin Ertugral as Orlando Pirates coach who replaced Eric Tinkler before the start of 2016/17 season was the worst mistake ever for the Orlando Pirates team.

When Ertugral arrived he found the team that was a much better Pirates left by Eric Tinkler who joined the newly formed Cape Town City FC. The team that Eric left at Pirates was the team that had reached the finals of the CAF Confederations Cup and there was no reason to change players in the team. Muhsin could have just added a few players and not transfer any player from that team.

Players like Rooi Mahamutsa, Lehlohonolo Masalesa, Lehlohonolo Majoro, Sfiso Myeni, Daine Klate, and many more were informed they were not part of Muhsin’s team and they had to find teams to play for before the start of the season.

New players were roped in including the likes of Donald Makondelela, Thabiso Kutumela, and a few more. The new players failed to impress the technical team and some of them were loaned out to other teams and surprisingly they are currently doing well for those teams.

Fans are now crying foul at Pirates management for letting Muhsin take over as a team coach after Eric was told to go. Fans are asking why the team signed players that were not good enough to join Pirates and let leave the senior players who understood the importance of playing for the Pirates team and players who were very united as they played at the highest level of African football.

Fans are also questioning the current decision of loaning out Justice Chabalala to Chippa United while the team is struggling at the back. Justice was also surprised by the decision when it was explained to him. They youngster was doing well for the team and was one of the reasons the team did not concede a lot of goals when he was part of defense at Pirates. He even scored a goal for the team.

With Edwin Gyimah now out of the team, there is only one central defender who is fit to play, Ayanda Gcaba and most coaches at Pirates undermines his talent. He was a regular under Eric Tinkler and was also part of the Bafana Bafana setup until the arrival of Muhsin and Bradley Carnel.

Fans are also asking the moral behind the signing of Marc Van Heerden when the team has Patrick Phungwayo and Thabo Matlaba as left backs. Marc has been doing well as a left back for Chippa United but he seems lost at Pirates. Fans are asking why is Patrick not being played as he has not disappointed them as a left back for the team.

Micho is now doing his best and sooner or later the team might start winning trophies again.
