Kaizer Chiefs turning away all international trialists

Kaizer Chiefs are not taking chances nowadays when it comes to the signing of international players. The team recently turned away more than 10 trialists who were looking forward to play for Amakhosi. With Kaizer Chiefs looking forward to the second round of the Premier Soccer League, they have already identified positions which are vital for them to clinch the ABSA Premiership. The team has invited four internationals for trial at the team in Naturena and are currently observing them very closely.

Gustavo Paez and Miracle Gabeya showing promise on Kaizer Chiefs trial. We have been informed that Italian forward Gustavo Paez and Malawian defender Miracle Gabeya have shown early promise at Kaizer Chiefs. The pair are currently training at Naturena with the view to possibly landing contracts. Paez is a forward who is available on a free following a spell with Venezuelan club Estudiantes de Merida while Gabeya has been doing duty for Big Bullets back home in Malawi.

Information we gathered is that Paez has ‘Alexis Sanchez’ qualities in his game as he is direct and fast. Though having already played in Peru, Venezuela, Slovenia, Italy and Spain, he is still 26. Paez was born in Venezuela to Italian parents and has been capped at junior international level for the South Americans. He scored in a friendly match for Chiefs this week and has travelled with the squad for their mid-season camp in Potchefstroom.

With regards to Gabeya, the centre-back has been solid at training and now we are not sure what will happen to him as Lorenzo Gordinho returned from his trial in Denmark. Though he is only 20, Gabeya is already a regular for the Malawi national team.

The other two players on trial are Pedro Henrique Dias DeAmorim from Brazil and Ismael Olivier Toure from Ivory Coast. They are also being assessed very closely and a lot of impression about them has been recorded. Chiefs are looking forward to sign the best players and if four of them are up to the standard then they might find themselves playing for the Soweto giants.

The problem that they might face is the registration in the PSL as Chiefs has already registered their maximum number of foreign players allowed per season by the PSL. If they are to sign any of these players on trials, they will have to review which foreign payers to release so to create space for the new players.

Italian trialist, Gustavo Paez has agreed a deal in principle with Kaizer Chiefs, with the club set to confirm his signature in the coming days. Head coach Steve Komphela has been running the rule over the 26-year-old since the team’s return to training on January 6.

The Soweto giants initially had four foreign trialist under the watchful eye of Komphela and his technical team, however, it has since been narrowed down to two players, namely, Paez and defender Pedro Henrique Dias DeAmorim.

Our source has now revealed that the Venezuelan-born striker has agreed a deal in principle with Amakhosi, however, an official statement about whether or not the player has put pen to paper is yet to be released.

Chiefs currently have two available foreign quota spots and should the player put pen to paper, Paez will join the list of three foreign strikers currently on the team’s books – namely, Zimbabwean Michelle Katsvairo, Togolese international, Camaldine Abraw, and Lewis Macha from Zambia.

He is now in the list of wanted players by Mamelodi Sundowns.
