Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have tried to lure the Zimbabwean top striker from Maritzburg United but failed. It is now season number 3 where these two Soweto giants are failing to sign Evans Rusike who is one of the best strikers in the PSL so far. With the transfer window to open again in january, the two giants will agains try to sign Rusike.
Kaizer Chiefs are keen on signing Maritzburg United Zimbabwean striker Evans Rusike. Chiefs missed out on signing him before the start of the season and they are lining up a great offer for him in the January transfer window. The Zimbabwean striker is number one on the list of targeted players by Steve Komphela.
Chiefs are looking to add the striker for the 2016/17 PSL season. Evans impressed Chiefs when he scored 9 goals for Maritzburg United even when the team struggled to keep their PSL status last season. Evans has been the target of top teams in the PSL and has had a lot of interests from other smaller teams as well. He is currently one of the best strikers in the PSL and could also make a move overseas in future.
The 26 year old has progressed so much that Maritzburg will not sell him for peanuts. The Zimbabwean could be sold for R5 million for any team interested in him and it seems Chiefs are ready to buy him for any amount which will be reasonable.
Rusike is seen as the possible man to solve the goal scoring problem at Chiefs. He is yet to score his first goal for Maritzburg this season but has proved to be handful in all games that Maritzburg has already played this season under Ernst Middendorp. He is first on the team list of Maritzburg United and has not disappointed them so far.
His contract at Maritzburg is a long term one and for a team to persuade him to leave would be possible if they are ready to pay big money to Maritzburg United. The Zimbabwean has also been part of the Zimbabwe national team which qualified for next AFCON. He will be partnering Khama Billiat for Zimbabwe’s hope to win the AFCON for the first time.
Orlando Pirates have already signed Justin Shonga from Zambia but they are still interested in Rusike. The Zambian striker is yet to score a goal for Pirates but has impressed the technical team and the fans with his moves and shots at goals. Justin will definitely be productive with a striker like Rusike in the field of play.
As Kaizer Chiefs coach and management indicated earlier in the season that they are looking for a striker, They are definitely going back to Maritzburg with a new offer come January. Maritzburg United management indicated that they are not expecting anything less that R6 million for their target man. Chiefs are well known for not being big spenders which means that the price that Maritzburg are expecting might be too much for Chiefs’ budget.
Rusike played a number of seasons at Maritzburg and now looking for a new challenge in one of the top teams in South African football.
