Baroka FC are enjoying their current position in the Absa Premiership. The Limpopo team is now the best team in the PSL as they have the most points than any other team. Their coach Goloko Thobejane is delighted to be the best coach in the league so far as last season they survived relegation. Thobejane reflects on last season as he says it was a very stressful moment.
Limpopo province has two teams in the PSL which are Polokwane City Football Club and Baroka Football Club. The two teams are using the two stadiums in Polokwane which are the main Peter Mokaba Stadium and the old Peter Mokaba stadium. The two stadiums are next to each other and the rivalry between the two sides has been increasing each and every season.
Polokwane City qualified for the top 8 and took part in the annual MTN 8 competition. The team has a lot of top quality players who can help them win a trophy soon. Baroka FC on the other hand does not have enough experienced players except Letladi Madubanya who spent almost his career at Platinum Stars. The rest of Baroka players are still young and looking forward to learn in the PSL.
The two teams are representing the Limpopo province in the PSL and are expected to stay in the elite league forever as the province had missed having a team in the PSL for too long after Black leopards were relegated a few seasons ago. Football fans are happy in Limpopo right now as they still have 2 teams in the PSL and that is evident when they have home PSL matches where they are watched by a high number of fans.
Most importantly is that the two teams are using mostly players form Limpopo which is a good thing as it would not make sense for a Limpopo team to use all KwaZulu- Natal players for an example. Limpopo has a lot of talented players and those players are ready to play football in the elite league. At least nowadays there are a few players from Limpopo playing for other teams in the PSL.
Rodney Ramagalela who has been scoring goals for Polokwane City is from Limpopo and has played for a number of PSL teams where he scored a number of goals. He played for Black Leopards before moving to Mamelodi Sundowns and then Golden Arrows before coming home to play football at Polokwane City where he is not far from home in Venda.
Rodney’s form has never declined since the days he played for Black Leopards. He has been scoring goals for all the teams he played for and it seems he won’t stop now as scoring is his trademark. While playing for Mamelodi Sundowns, he was also selected for the national team Bafana Bafana on a few occasions. He has also played for the Under-23 team where he scored a lot of goals before graduating to the senior Bafana team where competition became higher.
Avhapfani Tshinuna who is currently the goalkeeper for Baroka FC also played for Black Leopards FC. He was in goals when Baroka played to a 1 all draw with Leopards to make a return to the PSL. It was an emotional match for Avhapfani who grew up playing for Leopards as both teams were part of his life. Baroka signed him to help Masuluke who has been doing well for the team except for a few mistakes he did last season.
Baroka FC are flying high this season with players such as Gift Motupa on loan from Orlando Pirates.
