Some Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates players are not happy with the fact that they are yet to be given a chance to play for their teams since they were signed. Kaizer Chiefs Football Club has gone 2 seasons without a trophy so far under the guidance of Steve Komphela who is in his second season as Chiefs coach now. The team signed a lot of players and released a lot of layers over the period and it seems nothing has worked for them as they are still trying to find the winning mentality. The Chiefs team tried to challenge for the 2016/17 PSL season but failed in the last 7 matches.
Recently the chairman Mr. Kaizer Motaung released the statement regarding the future of the team where he mentioned a number of things including how the management and the technical team failed to sign quality players in the last 2 years. He mentioned that he was aware that the players that were signed were not good enough to play for Kaizer Chiefs and he was busy trying to solve the problem now before the start of the new season.
This means that a lot of players who failed to make an impact at Chiefs will be released before the new season. The chairman is also planning to sign top quality players who will make Chiefs the respected team they were before. Mr. Motaung also mentioned that players should be aware that there are going to be major changes at the team and should be ready to accept the decisions that are going to be made about their future at Chiefs.
Steve Komphela will still lead the team in the new season according to the chairman. He said that they find it unfair for them to fire coaches who are let down by the quality of players in their team. He further indicated that Komphela’s future will be decided after the new season and if he can be able to do well and win a few trophies in the new season, his contract might be renewed for continuity within the team.
While other Chiefs players tried to win the league, other players were frustrated as they were never given a chance to showcase their talents. Those players are now surely aware that the changes that were discussed by the chairman would definitely affect them. They are conscious about the fact that they should start looking for teams to play for before August 2017 when the new season will be resuming.
Keagan Buchanan is another player who is not happy at Chief as he indicated that he was thinking about getting game time somewhere else as Chiefs were not affording him any. He joined Chiefs before the start of the 2016/17 season and a lot was expected from him but so far he has seen less game time for the Amakhosi.
Orlando Pirates Football Club is currently going through the worst season ever as they are facing the possibility of being out of the top 8 of the PSL season for the first time since the PSL was started. The team is still in the Nedbank Cup and could win it to make their fans happy and also to boost the players’ morals.
The team is regarded as the worst Orlando Pirates team ever as they have lost dignity in the PSL and the African continent as a whole. The arrival of the Swedish coach Kjell Jonevret was a blessing for the team as he managed to establish unity and respect. He also managed to book the semifinal spot in the Nedbank Cup which enables the winner to take part in the next year’s CAF Confederations Cup.
While the coaches came in and left, the players were left confused as to which tactics they were supposed to implement on the field of play. The Pirates team was coached by 3 coaches in one season and their current position in the PSL is a result of lack of leadership in management as they were warned by fans when they hired Muhsin Ertugral as the coach before the start of the new season.
Pirates’ worst mistake was to let Tinkler leave the team. Eric has since won the Telkom Cup with Cape Town City and was also in the PSL title challenge in the first season as the team’s coach. Pirates’ management should have been patient with Eric and that was the only best option available for them than to destroy the team by hiring the self-centered Muhsin Ertugral.
Players who are concerned about their future at Pirates are now wondering if they will be part of the team for next season or not. They are worried each and every day which makes them not to perform well for the team when given the chance to do so. Their future in the team is limited and that destroys the confidence of players.
Bernard Morrison is one of the players who impressed Pirates while he was playing for AS Vita in DRC. He was so great that he was signed but so far he has not delivered what was expected of him. He is now facing the chop and rumours are that he is heading back to his former employers AS Vita in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It will be a mistake to let Morrison leave the team. He just need enough game time to be able to find the confidence and form he is known for.
As the January transfer window is around the corner, we are waiting to see whta changes will be done at the two Soweto giants of South African football.
