Mamelodi Sundowns to release senior players in the 2018 January transfer window period

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to announce a number of senior players to be released by the then African champions. The players who are going to be released are those who have been reported unhappy and those who are running out of contract as the technical team is looking at adding a number of new players in the January transfer window period. Pitso and Mnqithi have already identified who will be leaving and who will be joining their team come January 2018.

Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club is one of the respected teams in the country and the African continent as a whole. The team won the league two years ago and managed to bring home the CAF Champions League. The Pitso Mosimane coached team failed to defend their league title as Bidvest Wits managed to steal it from them. This means that it is time to go back to the drawing board for Sundowns.

Mamelodi Sundowns looked like a team that was going to be able to defend their ABSA Premiership title as they had about five games in hand with a point difference of four to five. They failed to win their games in hand until such time that they were level with other teams and still behind in points to lead the PSL table.

Coach Pitso Mosimane indicated to his players while they still had about eight games to go that they must not sit at their laurels and expect games in hand to be points. He further indicated that the current PSL season was the most difficult and anything was possible as the title race was very hot from the start of the second round.

Sundowns are now fully focused on defending their CAF Champions League title and that one could also go out of their pockets as they did not start well in their first group stage match where they played to a goalless draw at home. That resulted in Pitso Mosimane not a happy man as his team missed clear scoring chances at home and should have won the match by three goals or more.

Pitso indicated in the first half of the league season that his senior players were much relaxed than ever before as they did not show any signs of hunger during the campaign. He blamed them for not taking leadership role during matches as they relied on Percy Tau to lead the team as the youngster did his best to make sure the team was winning matches in vital stages of the league campaign.

There are a few players who are targeted by Mamelodi Sundowns for the new season. This means that there are players that the technical team is going to release before the new season. As things stand, the team needs a few changes according to the technical team and those changes are going to affect the careers of some of their current players as they will have to look for new employers before the new season.

The players who are set to be released by Sundowns are Kennedy Mwene, Teko Modise, Asavela Mbekile and others who are on loan to other PSL teams. It looks like more players will be released by Sundowns to make way for new players in the team. The likes of Malajila and Ngele are expected back in the team after winning the league title with Bidvest Wits FC.

The new players targeted by Pitso Mosimane and his technical team are Deolin Mekoa, Steven Pienaar, Andile Jali, Ben Motswari and a few more. If Sundowns should manage to sign all their targets it would mean that they have to release more senior players in the team including the likes of Malajila and Ngele who are very much determined to continue with their career with Bidvest Wits FC.

The team already released the Burundian international Fistos razak and the Nigerian international Ezeonyi. Wayne Sandilands is already at Orlando Pirates and some senior players will be following him to Pirates soon.
