PSL top players whose form declined in the 2017/18 season

A number of PSL top players are yet to show their great performances in the 2017/18 season as they are struggling for form and game time in their teams. The decline in form has led to the introduction of a number of youngsters in different teams. The youngsters are doing well currently and have established themselves as season campaigners. Some players will be released if they fail to lift themselves in their teams come the January transfer window period.

The Premier Soccer League has had a lot of top quality players since inception and the recent top players are no longer in the same standard as those who started with the league. There are players who are currently playing in Europe who made the PSL one of the best leagues in the world. There are a few top players who were ranked higher than the rest in the league but their recent form has seen them being dropped to the rafters and their values decreasing.

Thabo Matlaba is one of the players who once or twice became a wanted player by a number of top African teams including Zamalek and Al Ahly of Egypt. His name was the first to be written when it came to national team Bafana Bafana selectors. Thabo Matlaba played for a number of teams in the PSL and he is now the captain of Orlando Pirates. He was snubbed by Bafana Bafana coach Stuart baxter due to his poor form recently and at Pirates he is now used as a midfielder.

Oupa Manyisa of Orlando Pirates is another player who is facing difficult times at mamelodi Sundowns as since he joined the team they are still yet to win a major trophy. Oupa is playing regularly at Sundowns under Pitso mosimane but his selection has been questioned a number of times. He is one of the highest paid players at Sundowns and that has caused a lot of divisions in the team as the players who won the league and the champions league are not happy about the special treatment Oupa is receiving at Sundowns.

Bernard Parker of Kaizer Chiefs is another player who is not enjoying his football at Chiefs as his contribution has been questioned. He was also one of the permanent player for Bafana Bafana and scored a few goals. At Chiefs he was also once the leading goal scorer. Bernard’s current form is under a lot of questions as he has failed on a number of occasions to show leadership role in the Chiefs’ striking department. He was replaced when Chiefs were knocked out of the Telkom Cup by Bidvest wits as he was not playing well.

Mpho Makola is one of the players who represented Bafana Bafana a few months ago and things seemed alright up until the time when he failed to perform for Pirates and was benched on a number of occasions. Mpho’s form has been on and off and that has resulted in him being left out of the current Bafana Bafana squad which will be facing Nigeria for the AFCON qualifier. Mpho is trying his best to regain his form but things are very difficult at the moment as there are lot of talented midfielders waiting for his spot at Pirates.

Mulomowandau Eric Mathoho is one of the defenders who commanded respect in the PSL and Bafana Bafana. His recent form has been questionable and was blamed for Kaizer Chiefs’ loss to the PSL title challenge. Tower was red carded while playing for Chiefs and also when he played for Bafana Bafana against Cape Verde Island.
