The missing player in the current Bafana Bafana team

Bafana Bafana’s failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in russia was due to the selection policy in the team. A number of top players were left out of the team by Stuart Baxter after taking over from Shakes Mashaba. The team even failed to beat minnows Cape Verde Island as they lost twice and jeopardised their chances of qualifying as they expected two wins against Senegal but ended up being handed two defeats by Senegal.

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane is one of the best players in South African football. He is the reason SuperSport United won a number of trophies and now one game away from winning the CAF Confederations Cup. Yeye is the best midfielder in South African football and it was a big mistake for Kaizer Chiefs to release him when they needed him the most.

Let us look at some midfielders who could partner Letsholonyane at Bafana Bafana:

Dean Furman is one of the most important players in the midfield of South Africa especially when it comes to winning balls in midfield. Dean has grown to be one of the key players for Bafana Bafana and has been doing well at SuperSport United as well. Dean was vital for Bafana Bafana’s win against Nigeria as he stayed composed throughout the game. He kept the Nigerian players wondering how to break the middle line of Bafana Bafana as it was not easy getting past him in most cases. He has played very well alongside Letsholonyane at SuperSport United.

Bongani Zungu is also an important and key player for Bafana Bafana from now going forward as there is no other player who is capable of doing what he does. Bongani has been doing well in Europe as he started his journey in Portugal before heading to France where he is playing against the likes of Neymar. The price tag or R52 million indicates how important Bongani is for the team he played for in Portugal. He has been man of the match in almost every game he played for the side. The role he plays at Bafana Bafana is more of an attacking role and he has been afforded a free role than a specific one. Bongani will end up playing for one of the top teams in Europe soon if he continues playing well. He is also a candidate to partner the one and only Reneilwe at Bafana Bafana.

Themba Zwane of Mamelodi Sundowns is also doing well for his team and was key when Sundowns won the CAF Champions League. He has a lot of experience against any African opponents and never loses concentration when playing football. He played very well against Nigeria and Stuart Baxter and had a few scoring chances which he should have buried. With time Themba will join his former teammate in Europe as he has shown a lot of talent over the seasons he played at Sundowns. It is only time when the European team will come knocking at Sundowns’ door for his services. Themba has played alongside Yeye at Bafana in a number of matches.

Andile Jali is one of the key players for South Africa and he has realised he has to play football all the time in order to maintain his Bafana Bafana spot as he has not been playing regular football in Belgium. He is currently looking for a team to play for in South Africa and it seems one of the big three will sign him especially Mamelodi Sundowns who are known to be big spenders on talented players like Andile Jali. Andile has seen less time in the field under Stuart Baxter and is also a perfect match to Yeye Letsholonyane.

Thuso Phala is also one of the underrated players in South African football. His combination with Letsholonyane at SuperSport United is the reason the Pretoria based team is about to be crowned CAF Confederations cup champions come Saturday night at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.
