South African radio has all the talented commentators and presenters who keep listeners glued to their radio stations each and every time there is a show or a game of football. The SABC radio is the leader when it comes to radio commentators and presenters of sports shows. When it comes to radio commentators, there are some people who prefer watching the game on TV while listening to their commentators on radio. Let us discuss a few top class radio presenters and commentators of football.

Radio presenters and commentators of football

Cebo Manyapelo

Cebo was the best radio presenter when it comes to football matters. He had all the knowledge and when asked a question he did not refer it to be answered the next day, he had all the answers in his head. Cebo had not played football but was one of the best when it came to football matters. He worked for Motsweding FM and also a commentator for SABC1. His show on Motsweding FM was the most listened sports show in the mornings in South African radio. May his soul rest in peace.

Big T Muavha

The Phalaphala FM sports show presenter is one of the best when it comes to football matters and he doubles his job with Athletics commentating on SABC2 when there are athletics. Big T has all the knowledge although he still needs to work on structuring his questions when interviewing top football officials as it seems as if he is scared to ask some important information from those officials but able to ask the questions to low class officials.

Udo Carelse

Udo is one of the legends when it comes to football commentating and presenting. He has been in the industry for far too long and is the anchor of Radio 702 Sports. Udo has also worked for SABC TV. Listening to him live on radio is like listening to the man who has played the game while he has not done so. Without Udo, South African football will never be the same.

Sydney “Singabopha” Mashige

The best football commentator of all time. The Phalaphala FM football commentator is the best when it comes to football. He has been in the industry for more than 20 years and still going strong. His voice was used for SABC introduction background commentating during the 2017 AFCON in Gabon. Sydney is one of the commentators who makes his listeners switch off TV volumes for them to listen to him while they are watching the match on TV.

Singabopha has also been interviewed by Robert Marawa on Metro FM for his skills and has also been interviewed on a number of TV Sports shows. Although he use the Venda language to commentate, Sydney has seen growth for the station’s listenership and still going strong when the microphone is next to his mouth with a game of football in front of his eyes.

Brian Mofokeng

Brian is one of the best English commentators in South African radio when it comes to football. He is currently working for Radio 2000 and football is what Thabiso gives the listeners each and every time. He is also part of the SABC1 commentators sometimes but radio commentating is his best career so far.
