Kaizer Chiefs midfielder says the coach is limiting his talent

George Maluleka has admitted that he would like to be playing in a more attacking position for Kaizer Chiefs, but is happy to play the role that Steve Komphela has given him.

The midfielder has been one of Chiefs’ most regular players this season as the Amakhosi keep up their hopes of challenging for the Absa Premiership title, although he has often been utilised in a more defensive role.

On Saturday, in Chiefs’ last game of the year, the 28-year-old will come up against his former employers, Ajax Cape Town, where he played as an attacking-minded midfielder under Foppe de Haan.

He admitted to Chiefs’ official website, “I like to play a little bit more forward as I have, in my present position, less opportunities to attack, however it’s the coach’s decision. Besides that, I am enjoying this role as well.”

But Maluleka is eager to keep up his form in KwaZulu Natal, with his only two goals this season having been scored there at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

He said, “The Ajax Cape Town match is our last in 2017… Supporters usually attend our home games in Durban in great numbers. If that happens again on Saturday, we will reward them – we want to make our fans happy… I love to play in Durban. I also scored both my goals there this season.

“Durban is usually a good hunting ground for us. Ajax won’t be an easy opponent, but we are ready. We are in the thick of things when it comes to the log, being in third position and we definitely look at finishing the year on a high note.”

On the topic of facing Ajax, a club with whom he spent some successful years, ‘Mido’ says that he’s looking forward to it.

He said, “I had a good time with them and I revived my career at Ajax under coach Foppe de Haan. That’s why the club will always be close to my heart.”

The clash with Ajax is due to get underway at Moses Mabhida Stadium at 20h15.
