Goals from Mduduzi Mdantsane and Gift Motupa saw Baroka FC claim a 2-0 win over struggling AmaZulu at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.The hosts got off to the perfect start as Mdantsane fired past Siyabonga Mbatha from close range to put his side ahead after eight minutes.
Usuthu nearly hit back four minutes later, but the Baroka defence did well to deny Ovidy Karuru a clear sight of goal.
The hosts went close to doubling their advantage in the 34th minute but Sibusiso Mabiliso got back in time to deny Abdi Banda from close range.
AmaZulu should have leveled matters on the stroke of halftime but Mhlengi Cele failed to hit the target from six-yards out.The visitors enjoyed most of the possession in the opening 15 minute of the half but they struggled to carve out chances.
Baroka went agonisingly close to bagging a second goal with 15 minutes remaining, as Talent Chawapiwa rattled the upright with a fine volley from the edge of the box.The hosts did double their advantage in the 79th minute as Motupa shrugged off Tapelo Nyongo before calmly slotting past Mbatha.
That proved to be the final chance of the half as Kgoloko Thobejane’s charges claimed their first win of the new year.
