When Tendai Ndoro returned to South Africa, many were surprised he didn’t rejoin former club Orlando Pirates, but now he’s lifted the lid on the real reason he joined Ajax.
Ahead of the much-anticipated iKapa Derby, Ndoro spoke to the club’s official web channel and explained exactly how the transfer went down.
“It was an easy decision. I was in Saudi Arabia and the club approached me, then I didn’t have to wait, I just said: ‘Here in Saudi Arabia, I’m struggling, I have to go back home where I started.’ So it was a better opportunity for me again to come and join Ajax Cape Town, and join the greatest coach ever,” he said.
When asked if his relationship with Muhsin was what persuaded him to join the Urban Warriors, the Zimbabwean international confirmed this by responding: “I didn’t think twice, I just said book the next flight and I will be there.”
The player cut a relaxed and perhaps even jovial figure as he sat beside fellow teammate Gerald Takwara at a Cape Town restaurant for the interview.
Reunited with his favourite coach and scoring on his debut, things appear to be going well so far for the former Al Faisaly player. It will be interesting to see how he fares against his old club Pirates, who he will meet in an upcoming Nedbank Cup fixture.
