Cape Town City head coach, Benni McCarthy thinks that Mamelodi Sundowns will be cautious during this evening’s encounter, after the last time the two sides met.
City and Sundowns will lock horns at the Athlone Stadium this evening, February 02, in a promising top of the Absa Premiership table clash. Prior to tonight’s meeting, City claimed a 1-0 win over the Brazilians, extending their winning streak over Sundowns to three games.
Now, City will have the chance to narrow the gap at the top, should they be able to claim all three points from the Brazilians, trimming the difference down to just one point between the first and second place on the log.
Speaking to the media, McCarthy, who won’t be on the touchline due to suspension, has revealed that his side should be ready to face a Masandawana side who will likely be guarded in their approach tonight.
“Friday’s game, a table topper, hopefully, it is going to be an exciting game for both teams. We are both coming off good performances I think. Sundowns drew against Chiefs which they probably felt that it was an opportunity missed for them, us drawing against Bloemfontein Celtic, it was three points thrown away by us,” he told the media.
“For Sundowns, we prepare well, we have to be ready because we know what we are up against, we are up against a team whose ball retention is very good and they are going to try and control the game. But, I think they are also going to be a little bit more cautious than ever because they played us once this season and we played probably the perfect game –we controlled the midfield, we controlled defence, we didn’t allow star players to get on the ball and dictate play and where they could hurt us,” he added.
