Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter is under no pressure to win the four-nation tournament in Zambia this according to sources close to the South African Football Association.
The South African national squad departs today for Zambia to take on Angola, Zimbabwe and hosts Zambia in the tournament. However, sources close to the South African FA have indicated that unlike his predecessors Baxter won’t face mounting pressure as he takes his youthful Bafana squad to Zambia.
“Baxter is building a vision and he is fully supported by SAFA. The FA knows and understands the nature of this trip and wants to ensure that he and the players get as much as they can from the tournament,” said a source close to the FA.
“This tournament is also in line with SAFA’s mandate of ensuring that Bafana Bafana are well prepared for their 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers when they resume in September.
“Therefore, it’s important that the national squad play as many games as possible against good African opponents. This is especially important for the younger players who I’m sure will form part of the squad that will be part of the qualifiers and hopefully part of the actual tournament in Cameroon,” concluded the source.
Bafana will participate in the torment from 22 March till the 25th of March with the team expected to be back in the country on the 26th of March.
