Six teams, including Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, have already cemented their spot in next season’s MTN8 tournament, but who will join them?
Masandawana, who have already been crowned champions, and Orlando Pirates in second place, are one of just a handful of teams who know their league finish before the last game of the season, although several have secured a spot in the eight-team competition.
Chiefs, Maritzburg United, Cape Town City and Free State Stars have all now accumulated enough points that they cannot be caught going into the final day of the season, while Golden Arrows and Chippa United know that a win on May 12th will be enough for them to join them.
The chasing pack includes Bloemfontein Celtic, Bidvest Wits, AmaZulu and even Baroka (who could still end up in the relegation playoffs), with all four clubs capable of leapfrogging Arrows and Chippa if results go their way.
Meanwhile, SuperSport United are set to miss out on a top eight spot for the first time in nearly two decades, with Matsatsantsa having last finished in the bottom half of the table back in 2000.
