A former Orlando Pirates defender, who is currently on the books of Cape Town City, is facing an uncertain future with the club.
The Siya crew has been informed by sources close to City that Tshepo Gumede’s name could be on the list of players to leave the Mother City club as the 2017/18 season is coming to an end.
The centre back, who was seen as a marquee signing for City when he joined the club from Pirates in 2016, has struggled for game-time under coach Benni McCarthy this season.
With only eight starts for the 27-year-old during City’s 2017/18 Absa Premiership campaign, an indication from sources in the know is that the player could be on his way out of the club at the end of the season.
“The player’s contract with Cape Town City is ending next month and the club has until the last day of this month to take up the one-year option they have on the deal. The player is unlikely to stay with the club (beyond the current deal), due to him not getting game-time in Benni’s team,” said the source.
City will be in KwaZulu-Natal for their last game of the season when they meet AmaZulu at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.
