Barcelona’s visit to South Africa will spurn all sorts of benefits for the country, not only football-related.
This is according to Rayco Garcia, whose company RG Consultant and Sport Solutions were instrumental in setting up the Spanish giants’ friendly with Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium on Wednesday (18h15).
“This is the beginning of a good relationship between both parties, not only for friendly matches but also for technical development and the interchange of programs that could help to develop South African football,” Garcia says
“As well, it’s a good step to give chances to your young talented players and to fill that bridge between Spain and Europe and South Africa.
“South Africa is the engine of Africa and most of the main companies have offices in SA. This as well could be important from an economic and financial angle, using football and important clubs as platforms to promote themselves and try to reach the rest of the world.”
Garcia is also open to exploring the possibility of bringing Barca’s fierce rivals Real Madrid to Mzansi.
“I have a good relationship with Real Madrid too,” he adds.
“If we reach the point where there is real interest I’m ready to support it and make it a reality.”
The Blaugrana previously played Downs in South Africa in 2007 [2-1 win for the Catalans], while Spanish football fans have an affinity for the country as it’s where their sole World Cup triumph came in 2010.
