” We are looking forward to the season ahead.”

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands says the team must take their game to the next level after showing much potential in 2017/18.

Pirates finished second in the Absa Premiership and consequently qualified for the CAF Champions League in the past campaign, improving vastly from when they came 11th in the league in 2016/17 – their worst performance in the PSL era.

Sandilands is well aware The Ghost expect silverware in the new season given the side’s resurgence under coaching duo Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic and Rhulani Mokwena.

“A lot of improvement has been shown by us as players in the change room and the coaching stuff. I know that we wanted to achieve more,” Sandilands says.

“I think what has been achieved in such a short space of time is really positive. But now we know what our potential is so we have to keep to that.

“We know that in the upcoming season there will be a lot of expectations for the team, so it’s up to us players to be able to deliver on that.

“The good foundation has been laid over this past season, but we really need to click on.

“I think it is exciting times for the club because of the type of football we played and the potential that has been shown, and being back in Africa.

“We are looking forward to the season ahead.”
