Al Ahly have confirmed that an offer has been tabled for Phakamani Mahlambi from ‘a club outside Egypt’ amid talk of a move to Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 20-year-old attacker joined the Egyptian giants last year, however hasn’t had the easiest of times in Cairo as he made just 12 appearances for the club in the Premier League – scoring once and grabbing five assists.
Things did seem to be looking up for the South African international after an injury to Junior Ajayi saw him enter Patrice Carteron’s plans for the season, although that news was followed up by an official announcement that he had gone AWOL from training and been fined for his actions.
Now, as confirmed on the club’s official website, Ahly are considering a bid that has been tabled, insisting that Carteron ‘would determine the player’s fate and the final response to the offer’.
While there has been no confirmation as to whether the tabled offer is from Sundowns, it is known that Pitso Mosimane is eager to land the former Bidvest Wits man, and that the club are prepared to use some of the money earned by the sale of Percy Tau in order to get him.
