Khama Billiat’s agent, Michael Ngobeni from M Sport Management, has come out guns blazing in defence of the Kaizer Chiefs star over the alleged criticism against him.
Media reports this week have indicated that a source at Chiefs has said that some players at the club have not been happy with the attitude of Billiat.
Speaking to the Siya crew from Zimbabwe, as he went to send Billiat and his national teammates off on their way to the Republic of the Congo for this weekend’s match, Ngobeni denied the alleged ‘attitude’ issue labelled against the former Mamelodi Sundowns player.
“There is this thing about Khama that he’s got an attitude and is complaining and stuff like that. When I read that article I decided that you know what, ‘Let me not defend the player just for the sake of defending him but let me interview some of the players he is playing with at his club.’ I interviewed three players. I even asked someone else from Chiefs about this thing. This is absolute hatred,” said Ngobeni.
“It is nonsense and a big lie. Every player loves Khama Billiat. Khama Billiat doesn’t even have a record even at Sundowns of being rude. Whoever is doing it from wherever, or maybe it’s just a fan who is just hating, it is wrong. The club (Chiefs) themselves are shocked (by) this. The player has just been blasted without proper evidence and without asking the club. The player is shocked. I’m not defending Khama but I know him and he’s not like that. Khama Billiat goes along with everyone. He’s someone who’s soft and is smiling with everyone,” added the agent.
According to the representative, Billiat learns from world stars like Cristiano Ronaldo that criticism is part of the game.
“It’s just like in the situation of Ronaldo. They always say bad things about him but he just keeps scoring goals. Khama is doing well. He’s helping the club. He’s scoring goals. I am the agent of Khama Billiat and I have to defend him when something wrong is said about him. I’m saying this from M Sport Management and I am at the airport as I am speaking to you and the players are leaving now,” he said.
Ngobeni concluded by saying, “People mustn’t hurt the boy to this extent and they must just let him go. Khama is happy at Chiefs and Chiefs fans are happy, management is happy and the players are happy with Khama. But Khama knows that someone from somewhere didn’t like whatever happened.”
Meanwhile, Billiat has taken to his official Twitter account to ‘appreciate the love that he gets’ from football fans.
