Baroka FC are on the verge of making history in South African football with their involvement in the Telkom Knockout.
Bakgaga are in the semi-finals of the prestigious competition. The Limpopo outfit qualified for this round of the competition through impressively beating Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarter-finals.
Their semi-final match this weekend will be against Bidvest Wits at the Peter Mokaba Stadium from 15h00 on Sunday.
“Baroka FC are on the brink of creating history this weekend during the Telkom Knockout semi-finals in Polokwane. The club is 90 minutes away from securing their first ever place in the final of a domestic Cup competition. Baroka FC will play Bidvest Wits at Peter Mokaba on Sunday at 15h00,” confirmed the PSL in a statement acknowledging the team’s achievement.
“In the round of 16, Baroka FC defeated Lamontville Golden Arrows 2-0. They faced Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarter-final in a fixture many predicted that the latter would win. But Baroka FC soldiered on – surprising Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0. Not only did they win that match, but they also dominated possession. Now Baroka FC have set their eyes on the final with the club chairman already indicating that after a number of years in top-flight football, silverware is now due.
They have never gone beyond the semi-finals in any cup competition before since they made the grand entrance into top-flight football a few seasons ago. Now, as they face a Bidvest Wits side that is also armed with experience and a penchant for cup glory, Baroka FC’s guts and determination will be tested. Bidvest Wits have been on-form in the Absa Premiership, currently second from the top. Baroka FC, on the other hand, have been struggling with consistency. They are sitting on number 12 in the log standings,” read the PSL’s statement.
