The Mzamsi legend was linked with an exit from the club earlier this year, though for now he is focused on the task at hand. Having already clinched one trophy for the club, in the form of the MTN8, he acknowledges that the league title is the one to chase.
When asked if sees himself at City for a long time, McCarthy was coy on the time frame, though pointed out that Comitis took a gamble on him.
The legend explained to the media, “Of course, listen, just for the opportunity, I think as much as you study, you do your license and you do your course and you are the most qualified as you can be, it doesn’t mean that you’re going to succeed in this job and this is the first chairman to take a gamble on me and it worked, so I am slowly starting to pay off the trust.”
The head coach then went on to say that while he has still not yet won the Absa Premiership title, his future at the club continues to lie in the hands of chairman, John
“So, I am still in the process of doing that and I can only do that by winning things, so until I win the PSL (Absa Premiership), then the dynamics will change, so I don’t know how long that’s going to take, but the ball is in the chairman’s court,” McCarthy added.
