Willard Katsande wasn’t even on the bench for Kaizer Chiefs’ Nedbank Cup close shave against The Magic FC, though there was no injury for the Zimbabwean.
The 33-year-old was left on the bench in last week’s Soweto Derby, only coming on as a second half substitute as they went on to draw 1-1 with Orlando Pirates and slip down to seventh on the Absa Premiership table.
Katsande, who has been almost ever-present for the club this season, didn’t travel to the Eastern Cape at all as his head coach decided to leave him out ahead of clashes with Polokwane City, Highlands Park and Maritzburg United.
The club’s official website gave the reason for his absence, explaining that he was ‘rested’ by Ernst Middendorp, saying, “Bernard Parker is the captain again, as both Itumeleng Khune (injured) and Willard Katsande (rested) didn’t travel with the team to Port Elizabeth.”
Meanwhile, Reeve Frosler is still awaiting his Amakhosi debut after Middendorp opted against naming him in the squad despite him making the trip to his hometown with the rest of the team over the weekend.
