Despite losing top spot in the Absa Premiership, Mamelodi Sundowns head coach reserved special praise for Hlompho Kekana, who is his choice for Midfielder of the Season.
Sundowns dropped to second spot in the league standings on Tuesday evening after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Cape Town City, who they defeated a week ago in Pretoria.
However, Mosimane singled out his captain after the encounter and labelled him the ‘Midfielder of the Season’.
“I’m not unhappy with my team, we fought and we played well. Kekana shows he’s above everybody. He’s my midfielder of the year, even now. I know he’s not going to win the award as every year,” Mosimane told SuperSport after the game.
“He’s been there for the last five years and always in Bafana. He’s my midfielder of the year, I give it to him now.”
While Sundowns allowed the Citizens to come from behind to win the game, Mosimane was not upset about ending up on the losing side.
“it was a tough game, but I’m not unhappy with my team. They played very well, but we lost the game,” he added.
“Because of an unfortunate situation for the first goal. The ball deflected off my player and it falls for Kermit Erasmus in front of the goals and he’s lethal there.
“The second goal, we should have been smart enough to shift towards the side of the ball, not to create a foul over there and it’s a brilliant goal. Unbelievable free-kick, what are you going to do?”
