Pirates have made 10 strong signings ahead of the 2019/20 season thus far as they send a strong signal of intent after twice finishing Absa Premiership runners-up in the last two years.
Some big names have arrived, including the likes of Siphesihle Ndlovu, Fortune Makaringe and Gabadinho Mhango, but Manenzhe is salivating at the arrival of one Tshegofatso Mabasa from Bloemfontein Celtic.
The SABC Sport analyst, who is also an ambassador for the Carling Black Label Cup, has admitted his excited at the possible impact of the burly forward who has effectively replaced Thamsanqa Gabuza.
“I’m happy because, if you look in the past two seasons at the target men we’ve had at the club, he was not producing the goals,” said Manenzhe.
“Now you go get a Tshegofatso Mabasa, who I’m very happy with [because] he plays well with his back to goal and he’s very powerful aerially.
“And this is one of the target men that are very mobile, he’s coming in with a lot of goals – 10 in all competitions plus three assists, so I think he’ll work well to bring the likes of Vincent Pule and [Thembinkosi] Lorch into the game, which is what Pirates were missing.
“Everytime we had a corner-kick, as AmaBuccaneer we were not hopeful because we did not have somebody powerful; somebody tall to go and attack the ball. But now, Mabasa brings that and that is one signing that I’m excited about.”
