A former SuperSport United striker made his debut after securing a move to Europe today after the season reached it’s midway point for his new employers.
James Keene left Matsatsantsa at the end of June when his contract with the club expired, and has since gone on to sign a two-year deal with Östers IF in Sweden.
Keene, who is 33-years-old, scored around 20 goals for SuperSport and Bidvest Wits during his time in South Africa, and now returns to the country where he spent a large chunk of his career before venturing to Mzansi.
The experienced striker has been brought on board in an attempt to help stave off relegation as they look to battle their way up the table in the second half of the campaign, starting with today’s encounter with Trelleborg, with Keene coming in as a second half substitute despite only recently arriving at the club.
Öster are currently five points from safety with 16 games, although have one game in hand on some of their fellow strugglers at the foot of the Superettan table.
