Will he or won’t he…that is one of the big questions in SA football ahead of next weekend’s Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
It is whether goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo will finally play for the Buccaneers in a topflight match watched by millions – for the first time since he joined the club from rivals Amakhosi a year ago.
Khuzwayo has been battling with a ankle injury that has needed serious attention and effectively ruled him out of kicking a back in an official match for Pirates last season – but he currently sits pretty in the voting poll for the Carling Black Label Cup and is expected to start, as chosen by the fans.
While Chiefs confirmed last week that their own goalie Itumeleng Khune would not be available due to a shoulder injury sustained in January, there has been no such update from the Pirates medical team.
If that is the word to go on, the fans should expect to see Khuzwayo at the sold out FNB Stadium this coming Saturday. The goal minder did wear the Buccaneers jersey at some point during the previous campaign, but it was for the reserve team in the Multichoice Diski Challenge. His comeback to the senior team never materialised.
