Maritzburg United looking to get off a winning start at home against Highlands Park.

The Friday night lights are back at Harry Gwala Stadium this evening, with Maritzburg United looking to get off a winning start at home against Highlands Park.

Eric Tinkler’s side went down 1-0 away at Golden Arrows last weekend after conceding early in the second half, and they will be hoping for better tonight as they try to make their home stadium a fortress once again. Nazeer Allie, who has been named as the club captain this season, is eager to make sure that they don’t drop points for the second game in a row, insisting that they know what’s expected of them in Pietermaritzburg.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Allie said, “Obviously it’s very important for us to start well at home… So it’s vital that we go out on Friday night and get all three points against Highlands Park. Preparations have gone well this week. The new signings have settled in well – everything’s in place and we know what’s expected of us on Friday.

“Highlands Park are a difficult team to play against an aggressive, hard-running team – strong and physical, they play long balls. It will be a tough game, but we’re well prepared and looking forward to it.”

Maritzburg host the Lions of the North this evening at 20h00.
