Bernard Parker admits that Kaizer Chiefs will have to be at their best this weekend if they’re going to get three points against an in-form SuperSport United.
Parker has missed just eight minutes of Chiefs’ 100% start to the season as he started the 3-2 win over Highlands Park and 1-0 victory v Black Leopards, and the stand-in captain is expected to be in the XI once again this weekend against Matsatsantsa.
SuperSport have scored six goals in their last two games, beating Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits 3-0, but ‘Die Hond’ wants to make it three wins from three in the Absa Premiership as Amakhosi look to continue their best start since their 2014/15 title-winning campaign.
Speaking to Chiefs’ official website this week, the 33-year-old said, “We have to have the mindset that we can achieve a positive result out of every game that we play. The game against SuperSport is very important because we need to collect as many points as we can early in the season, especially given that a lot of teams are still finding their way at this point.
“This is a big game they will be confident with their recent victories. Facing them currently is a plus because they’re a team who want to play. They are also confident and will be playing for a win. It will be an open game for us with the quality that we have we can score a few goals and with the quality they have we know we face a challenge. We want the three points to maintain our head start.”
‘Die Hond’ also set a target for his teammates ahead of the upcoming FIFA break, saying, “We must win our next two games against SuperSport and Cape Town City so that we are able to be at the summit of the log before the break.” Chiefs are currently second in the table behind Wits on goal difference as things stand, but a win this weekend would see them leapfrog the Clever Boys to sit at the Absa Premiership summit by Sunday morning.
