Pirates goalkeeper, explained why he is not playing

Joris Delle, the new Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, has explained why he thinks he is edging closer to his Buccaneers debut.

It’s been a poor start for his new club – first with the sudden departure of coach Micho Sredojevic and then a winless streak that has now stretched to six matches and four of those under the new man in charge, Rulani Mokwena.

The French goalkeeper arrived in the off-season with Pirates offloading Jackson Mabokgwane, but has not yet made his debut.

“It was also part of the adaptation. We try to build up because the goalkeepers are involved in this situation to suit the game plan,” Delle, speaking on the official club app, opened up about how he is settling in at Pirates since joining.

“Now I am fit and ready to come into the team. It’s only the decision of the coach and I respect that because it’s not my part. I only need to focus on my work and the time will come for me to make the team.”

Wayne Sandilands has been the preferred choice since the start of the season, but Delle has vowed to work his way to giving him competition.

“Of course I will try to give my contribution, but the most important thing for us is to actually win. My part is to make sure the team doesn’t concede goals. With clean sheets we can get results and that is my ambition when I come into the team,” he said.
