“kaizer Chiefs is doing well “

Pitso Mosimane says Kaizer Chiefs’ revival so far this season, eight matches in, makes them favourites to win the championship.

he Mamelodi Sundowns coach, speaking after his side’s 2-1 win over Black Leopards on Wednesday night, insisted Amakhosi were serious title contenders as they currently top the Absa Premiership table, though they have played two games more than the holders – Sundowns – and Bidvest Wits.

“Chiefs is doing well and doing their business quietly and getting on top, they fight a lot and it is normal and expected,” Mosimane told journalists.

“When I came to Sundowns (in 2012) we finished outside the Top Eight, and that’s where Chiefs finished last year. When you don’t have Top Eight you don’t have CAF and you are a big team like Chiefs, there’s pride and integrity for the badge to keep. It’s a normal reaction from them to come out like this. I mean how far low can they go? They have hit it (rock bottom) and they are coming back. And they are strong – I call them a well-rested team.”

Mosimane said he expected them to be among the contenders come May when the it becomes clear who will be crowned champions.

“They should be able to compete for the league because they play Saturday and the next Saturday and the next one. So they have the energy and time to fix their problems at training, but sorry we (Sundowns) have to play every three days. They are the favourites for me and that’s what I said about Wits last year. They didn’t have anything to do also,” he said.
