“We haven’t reached half of the season”

Middendorp, speaking at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium after their 2-0 victory over Chippa United, was asked to comment on his team’s performance and how he feels that Amakhosi are leading by seven points.

The German coach said he is not really interested in that and instead took a jab at the Orlando Pirates coach, who said he “felt like Picasso admiring the Mona Lisa” last weekend after their Telkom Knockout clash.

“I’m not really interested in that, it’s just a number of games we played so far, we haven’t reached half of the season,” he said.

“Some pictures or Spanish painter or Italian artist, I’m not really into that. I look at the game, I try to figure out what is good for us, to make points.”

Middendorp said this moment is very crucial to get good combinations for the upcoming Derby and insisted it is too early to celebrate, especially with other teams still having games in hand.

“Now it’s a very, very crucial moment to find the right combination for the weekend. I know Wits have a lot of games in hand, even other teams that are behind us have games in hand, so at this moment I don’t use too much mathematics.

“We know it’s a long, long way to go. We look at us, I’m not really talking about how tactically superior each and everybody is.

“Someone said don’t celebrate too much at this stage of the season,” he added
